Based on the latest release of information from The Department of State (DOS) on the eligibility and operations of its H-1B visa renewal pilot program inside the US. Applications can be submitted from January 29 to April 1, 2024. This Pilot program is capped at 20,000 participants for certain eligible foreign nationals who will be permitted to renew their H-1B visas inside the U.S., rather than overseas at a U.S. consulate or embassy. The State Department plans to control the applications by releasing 4,000 slots per week
Participation is voluntary and limited to Principal H1B Applicants. Key highlights of the H-1B visa renewal pilot program:
- DOS will accept application from January 29, 2024 to April 1, 2024
- Eligible applicants may apply online at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/employment/domestic-renewal.html
- Only those foreign nationals issued an H-1B visa by Mission Canada with an issuance date of January 1, 2020 to April 1, 2023 and foreign nationals issued an H-1B visa by Mission India with an issuance date of February 1, 2021 through September 30, 2021 are eligible to apply for visa renewal in the US through this pilot program (visa applications of dependent family members will not be accepted)
- Foreign national must be eligible for waiver of the in-person interview requirement.
- Foreign national must have submitted 10 fingerprints to DOS in connection with previous visa application.
- Foreign national’s prior visa must not have a “clearance received” annotation.
- Foreign national must have been most recently admitted to the US in H-1B status.
- Foreign national must have been an approved and unexpired H-1B petition.
- Foreign national must not have had to apply for a waiver to have prior H-1B visa issued.
- Foreign national must be currently maintaining H-1B status in the US.
